Carol Burnett to be honored by alma mater Hollywood High School

One of television's living legends, Carol Burnett, is being honored by her high school alma mater. Hollywood High, the high school Burnett graduated from in 1951, is naming an award after her.

She will receive the Carol Burnett Honor of Distinction Award on Thursday, January 10th at the El Capitan Theater on Hollywood Boulevard, just around the corner from the high school. The night will include a variety of musical production numbers with current and former students. Celebrities expected to attend are Rita Moreno, Margaret O'Brien, Wendi McLendon Covey, Ed Begley Jr., Aisha Tyler, Charlene Tilton, Renne Taylor and Joe Bologna.

The honor will be given to Burnett by good friend Betty White. The two worked together often on The Carol Burnett Show and later on Mama's family. LA Sitcom Examiner talked to Burnett about her remarkable career earlier last year at NBC's Betty White's 90th Birthday. Check out that interview with this link: Carol Burnett Interview.

Proceeds from the celebrity fund raising event goes to the Hollywood High School Performing Arts Center programs.

Burnett is just one of Hollywood High's famous alumni. Past students include Judy Garland, Rudolph Valentino, Cher, Laurence Fishburne, John Ritter, Valerie Bertinelli and Mickey Rooney.
