Carol Burnett became a household name back in the 60s after she launched her own variety show proving TV executives wrong, who told her that the genre was a "man's game."
The Carol Burnett Show" ran for 11 seasons an d averaged 30 million viewers who were tuning in faithfully each week.
Burnett will receive the honor at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Celebrity guests on hand will include Julie Andrews, Tony Bennett, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler to name just a few who will perform in Carol Burnett's honor as she receives the prestige award.
Tina Fey said it best when she crooned in her opening tribute to Burnett, “I love you in a way that is just shy of creepy.”
“A lot of female comediennes are going to come out and say that ‘I love you so much,’ ” Fey said, “but I’m saying it first!”
The show was taped and will broadcast Nov. 24 on PBS stations.
