The Carnival Organization of Jacksonville, Inc. (COOJI) is hosting a fish fry on Saturday, July 31 from 5 to 11 p.m. at Laparkan Shipping on Jacksonville’s Westside. Admission is free and the event, billed as a “Caribbean style family lime” will feature dominoes, cards, music, games, and face painting for children.
COOJI is the driving force behind the annual Jacksonville Carnival, which started a decade ago at Jacksonville Beach and is now held at Metropolitan Park each October. This year’s Carnival is scheduled for October 23, and the fish fry is one of many events leading up to the big day. Recent events have included two late night boat rides on the St. John’s River.
BBVA Compass, one of the sponsors of the Carnival, will be on hand to register individuals for “Compass for Your Cause” to help COOJI reach its goals for the 2010 Carnival.
Guests at the fish fry will have the chance to sample some of the reggae, calypso, and soca music stylings that are a highlight of the Carnival and the parade down Bay Street that marks the beginning. The music won’t be the only highlight, of course. This will be the perfect opportunity to sample some authentic Caribbean cuisine, so come hungry and ready to socialize and dance!
