Carnival Legend personifies Carnival's Fun Ship motto

The Carnival Legend was the site of the announcement for the partnership between Carnival and Cigar City Brewing. Two of the Florida brewer's ales are now served aboard Carnival ships that sail out of the Sunshine State. If you'd like to read more about that partnership and see some scenes from the announcement event, jump to this article.

The Legend was a fitting place for the announcement, since its current home port is Tampa. It was also a great example of a typical Carnival ship, since it sports many of the cruise line's most popular features. Click the slideshow accompanying this article to see just a few of them. As you go through the photos, you'll notice that the decor is anything but understated. Be prepared for bright, popping colors, lots of lights, and details everywhere.

Carnival has plenty of lounges and entertainment spots, as any good Fun Ship should. It also has a casino if you want to take a chance at hitting the jackpot, but my favorite part is the fact that it has some quiet getaways to offset all the excitement. You can curl up with a good book in an out of the way spot inside the ship or outside in the exclusive adults-only area.

Of course, the Legend has pools and hot tubs, too, but a big favorite is the Green Thunder water slide. Be prepared to plummet when the floor drops out. It's great fun for kids, and plenty of adults are brave enough to try it, too.

The Legend has an elaborate main dining room, but if you prefer to grab something casual, there's also a buffet with a variety of stations. Better yet, there are two extra cost options: a sushi bar and a steak house. They're both great options, but personally I'd opt for the steak. It's $35 per head for your entire meal, with food quality that rivals premium steak houses on land. If you're not sure what to eat, the Taste Bar is open in the evening with appetizer sized samplings of various dishes.

You might be afraid that all the partying on Carnival means a smoky atmosphere, but non-smokers don't have to worry because smoking is restricted to very few designated areas indoors, like the casino, and to one side of the ship outdoors. Better yet if you like clean air, it's going to be banned on all stateroom balconies as of October, 2014.
