This is the first time in Carmelo Anthony's career that he has missed the playoffs and he is not happy about it. Rumor has it that Carmelo might be considering a move to the Bulls. A rumor that is looking like a huge possibility after he started asking around about what it's like to play for coach Tom Thibodeau according to NBC Sports on Sunday.
The Knicks hired Phil Jackson recently in a bid to keep Carmelo in New York and the team did start improving. Unfortunately it is probably not enough improvement to keep a ring-hungry Carmelo Anthony on the team. Anthony can pick up the player option on his contract this year for $23.5 million but he is not expected to do that.
The Knicks were eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday evening with the Atlanta Hawks' win over the Miami Heat. The Knicks and Hawks were fighting for that last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. This marks the first year in history that at least one team out of the Knicks, Celtics and Lakers has not made the NBA playoffs.
Sunday's report that Carmelo is asking about the Bulls coach is not the first time he has shown interest in a possible move to Chicago. Anthony has recently been talking up the team and giving compliments to the coach. According to Anthony, he likes the way Thibodeau coaches and has much respect for the system he has set up for the Chicago Bulls.
The Knicks are set to play the Bulls in New York this evening. With all the interest Carmelo has been showing the team, it wouldn't be surprising if he had words with coach Thibodeau about playing for him next season. A big three consisting of Derrick Rose, Carmelo Anthony and Joakim Noah would bring the Chicago Bulls right back into contention for a championship win.
