Starting in November 2013, the Carlyss Fire Department will begin offering training on the use of fire extinguishers to businesses in the Carlyss area. The BullEx prop, donated by RAIN CII, will enable the department to simulate several fires including trash can, stove top, and electric motor.
Correct use of a fire extinguisher can control a small fire before it can grow, limiting property damage and preventing injuries.
“Fire departments spend more time teaching kids the importance of fire safety and what to in the event of a fire, but we look at the number of commercial properties within the district and wonder how many of the adults in the businesses know how to use a fire extinguisher in the event of a fire,” says Carlyss Fire Chief James Stanley.
Businesses will be given a certificate showing they have completed basic fire extinguisher training. To schedule training for your business, call the fire department at 337-583-2365.
