Carly Rae Jepsen has pulled out of a Boy Scout of America concert she was scheduled to perform at this summer due to the anti-gay policy that this organization follows. According to MSN Entertainment on Friday, March 15, 2013, Jepsen is hoping that by canceling this concert appearance, it will help to prompt change and rid the anti-gay stand of the Boy Souts.
The Boy Scouts policy bans gay members and Carly took a stand against this policy by refusing to play this West Virgina concert in July as long as that archiac rule is in place. Carly wasn't the only performer to pull out of this concert, Train also is protesting the anti-gay Boyscout policy and they too pulled out of this concert.
A spokesperson for the Boyscouts of America said that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and they respect that fact. The spokesperson also said they are looking forward to “delivering a great jamboree program for the scouts.”
Now that Carly and Train have dropped out of this summer jamboree, it will be interesting to see if other musicians join in on the protest and also refuse to play for a group that won't allow gays in their organization.
