Pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen unveiled the music video for her newest single, “Tonight I'm Getting Over You,” on Friday. The gloomy clip features Jepsen in a rocky romance with her lover in the big city.
The “Tonight I'm Getting Over You Video” opens with a home video of Jepsen's lover on the beach, but later cuts to the two's whirlwind romance in the city. In various scenes, Jepsen and her beau are shown around urban areas in trendy outfits, which is remiscent of the hip grunge in Taylor Swift's “I Knew You Were Trouble.” and pretty much any Lana Del Rey video. Trouble in paradise strikes as their wild times come to a halt. While Jepsen is hung up on old clips of the past, the guy returns to her to reignite that spark.
“Tonight I'm Getting Over You,” follows Jepsen's “This Kiss” single, which failed to make much of an impact on the charts in the wake of “Call Me Maybe” and “Good Time.” With producer Max Martin (Britney Spears, Katy Perry) at the helm of this vulnerable electro-pop track, it looks like “Tonight” will return the singer to hitmaking status.
All aforementioned single were lifted from Jepsen's “Kiss” album. The record peaked at no. 6 on Billboard's albums chart back in September.
