Comedian Carlos Mencia, as well as notable Hispanic politicians, Bill Richardson, Governor of New Mexico and Alberto Gonzales, former Attorney General were guests on the Larry King show, Thursday, April 29th, debating the new immigration law Arizona wants to put in place for the state.

The new immigration law, which is scheduled to go in effect in 90 days, would require immigrants to carry their “green card” or alien registration documents at all times. Carlos Mencia thinks this is un-American!

The new immigration law in Arizona is generating controversy, urging boycotts, lawsuits and action in Congress. Mencia debated and mentioned on the Larry King show, “I’m not defending illegal aliens. I am defending Americans! I think that if you pull over Americans like myself because I happen to have 10 family members who look like me in my car, that’s a violation of civil rights!”

Sheriff, Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona, who promotes himself as “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” also appeared on the Larry King show via satellite, said, “We’re not out there grabbing people on a street corner because they look like they’re from another country. We do it pursuant to our normal operations.”

Mencia stresses that he does not have a problem with arresting illegal aliens. The Honduran-born comic says, “my problem is when they ask me for papers. When they ask me what I’m doing.”

While Arizona is looking to be the new Alabama, cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and New York are looking to be the new America. Dozens of marches are planned for Saturday, May 1st in these cities to promote and seize this divisive law.
