Carlene Carter calls her latest album Carter Girl because, doggone it, she can! She is, after all, the chip-off-the-old-block daughter of June Carter and Carl Smith. However, Carter has never merely depended upon her family tradition’s long coattails because she’s a great singer/songwriter/performer all on her own. The older she gets, the more she sounds like her mom. She’s got her mother’s vocal tone as well as her zany sense of humor.
It hasn’t all been a bed of roses for Carter. Some may recall the trouble she got herself into when she was romantically linked to the late bass player, Howie Epstein, who played with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for many years. There were stories about drugs and a stolen car incident in 2001, which made all the tabloids.
These days, though, Carter sounds like she’s got everything together. Even if you don’t remember when she sang with the sibling trio The Carter Sisters, you’ll still dig Carter Girl. She’s got the goods; it’s in her genes. To find out more about Carlene, click here: http://www.countrystandardtime.com/d/article.asp?xid=1156
