A violent carjacking in New Jersey leaves a husband dead from a gunshot wound to the head, as two men were after a couple’s 2012 Range Rover. The man was shot in the head in front of his wife in a parking garage of an upscale mall, where they were doing Christmas shopping at about 9 p.m. on Sunday.
According to “Fox and Friends” on Monday morning, Dec. 16, the husband had just opened the door for his wife and made his way around the vehicle to the driver’s side. He was just sliding into the driver’s seat when two men approached him.
The New York Daily News reports that several shots were fired with one hitting the 30-year-old man in the head. The wife was not injured. The man was rushed to Morristown Medical Center, but his injury was so severe that he died at about 11:35 p.m. Sunday.
The men got away in the couple’s range rover, which police are actively seeking today. A witness heard the gunshots, which was followed by a woman’s horrifying screams, as both suspects got away in the couple’s vehicle and headed east at about 100 mph onto Route 24.
The incident occurred on the third floor of the parking lot of The Mall at Short Hills. Police do not know if the car was the target of crime. Police did say the vehicle does have substantial value to a carjacker.
Police are searching for the 2012 Range Rover with New Jersey license plates U26BVD. The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of relatives.
