Phoenix job seekers are fortunate to have a number of career fairs during the summer months. Most candidates know that having a tailored resume is the best way to represent your skills to a prospective employer. Career fairs present a couple of challenges to this approach, but here are some ways to still create a resume that will be relevant to the recruiters.
- Do homework on who will be there. The sponsor of the event will list employers attending and this is a good list to review. If a company you are interested in visiting is listed, prepare a resume tailored to the positions they are recruiting for that meet your skills and background. Double check the list the morning of the event because last minute additions may be included.
- Know what value your skills can provide an employer. Prepare some generic resumes with professional summary statements that highlight the skills you bring to an employer and general industry you are interested in.
- Be prepared to discuss any bullet point in depth. If it is on your resume, be ready to give a concise description of what you did and what results you achieved. Even if your resume isn’t tailored to that employer, it gives you a way to let them know the ultimate value you can provide to their organization.
There is an opportunity to use these recommendations on Monday, July 11that a local career fair. For more information:
