A career fair in Allentown's Coca Cola Park, hosted by local newspaper the Morning Call, commenced with over 500 hundreds visitor to its start on Tuesday morning. The fair was expected to draw over 2,000 people through out the day.
Almost 70 companies were represented and featured employment opportunities from Boston Beer, Dorney Park, East Penn Manufacturing, KidsPeace, LifePath Inc., and Phillips Pet Food & Supplies.
East Penn, which is battery manufacturer, expects to grow it business and will need over 400 more employees for the expansion. The company is hoping to start that increase with job seekers from this career fair.
Boston Beer, the Samuel Adams brewer, and Phillips Pet Food, which is family-owned and has a local distribution center in Easton, are some of the companies in which their table drew large crowds of job seekers.
The job seekers, who were armed with resumes and dressed to impress, seemed opportunistic about their chances and the Lehigh Valley economy.
The latest job statistics appear to bear that truth, as the region's unemployment rate fell to 6.4%, which is 1.8% lower than the same period last year, and the lowest since October of 2008.
