Jenny McGann followed up a Jill Woerner miss with a layup about 4 minutes to play at Juniata College to put Catholic University in front 73-63 and out of the Eagle’s claws Jan. 30. CU won 77-74.
McGann paced the Cards (19-1, 8-1 Landmark Conference) with 22 points. She was eight for 10 from the charity stripe. Woerner added 18 points and Katarina Owunna scored 17 points. Liz Briones contributed seven rebounds off the bench to tie Woerner and Owunna for the team lead.
CU committed 14 turnovers while only managing five assists. The Eagles outscored Catholic 16-7 in points on turnovers, but the Cards 10 more points in the paint.
Juniata (14-6, 5-4) had four scorers in double figures. Kelsey Livoti led the group with 14 points in 19 minutes.
Strong offensive rebounding and 20 points from Katelyn Fischer helped Marymount send York College on a long bus trip Jan. 30 after a 53-44 Saints win in Capital Athletic Conference action.
MU (17-4, 7-1) controlled the boards 41-33 and had 10 more offensive rebounds. Fischer, Kievanna Lacey and Tynisha Parks each contributed seven caroms. Lacey scored 12 points. She hit six of seven free throw attempts.
Kristen Haley led the Eagles (16-5, 5-3) with 17 points. Brittany Hicks added 14 points and nine rebounds.
