Cardinals very happy with Palmer pickup

The Cardinals quarterback situation has been in shambles for the past couple years. In shambles may even be an understatement. In comes Carson Palmer. He is a 33 years old former Pro Bowler with tons of experience, but also a lot of mileage.

Steve Keim, The Cardinals General Manager, says he has been studying Palmer since he got the job in the Cardinals front office. He anticipated that the raiders may be interested in trading him so felt that doing his due diligence would be in order.

“We started doing our due diligence on Carson in January,” Keim told the Arizona Republic on April 7, 2013. “ I was able to cut up every one of his passing plays for the last three seasons. I came away very, very pleasantly surprised."

There was a time when Carson Palmer was considered a top tier quarterback on a bad team (Cincinnatti Bengals). That seems like a lifetime ago now. He has been through two teams since that time and his reputation has been tarnished by forcing his way out of Cincinnatti. Kein also addresses his reputation.

"A lot of times in this business, you base your opinions on reputations. And when you study a guy, you come away disappointed or surprised. In this case, I saw that Carson still has the zing and can still make all the throws. That’s huge, especially with what Bruce [Arians] wants out of his quarterback.”

If the Cardinals are right and this turns out to be a resurrection for Palmer, then good for them. If all goes right, Palmer could turn out like Warner and resuscitate the Cardinals.
