Cardinals sign QB Brodie Croyle, cut injured Max Hall

The Arizona Cardinals this morning announced the team has signed quarterback BRODIE CROYLE and punter DAVE ZASTUDIL (ZAS-tuh-dil). To make room on the roster, the team has waived-injured quarterback MAX HALL (shoulder) and released tackle JAKE VERMIGLIO.

The move was necessary because of the injury to #2 quarterback John Skelton in the pre-season contest with Green Bay last weekend and an injury to Hall in practice earlier this week. That left the team with just two healthy QBs (starter Kevin Kolb and third-stringer Rich Bartel).

Croyle(6-2, 206) played the last five seasons with Kansas City after originally entering with league with the Chiefs as a third-round selection (85th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft out of Alabama. Last season with Kansas City, Croyle played in two games with one start while serving as the backup quarterback in 13 contests. He played in a career high nine games with six starts in 2007 and threw for 1,227 yards and six touchdowns. For his career, Croyle has played in 18 games (10 starts) and completed 181 passes on 319 attempts for 1,669 yards, eight touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Zastudil(6-3, 220) is a 10-year NFL veteran who was with the Cleveland Browns the past five seasons. He spent the 2010 season on injured reserve after injuring his knee last August. After originally entering the league with Baltimore as a fourth round pick in the 2002 NFL Draft out of Ohio, Zastudil spent his first four years in the league with the Ravens before signing with the Browns as a free agent in 2006. For his NFL career, Zastudil has played in 113 games and punted 581 times for 24,825 yards (42.7 yard avg.) and had 179 punts land inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Croyle will wear jersey #14 and Zastudil will wear #9.
