The Cardinals have announced they have recalled outfield Shane Robinson from Memphis; outfielder Joey Butler is going back to Memphis in a corresponding move.
Robinson started the season on the opening day roster, but was sent to Triple A after starting 2 for 20 as primarily a pinch hitter. In Memphis, the outfielder hit .371 and killed lefties by batting .524. He'll continue to be used as a pinch hitter for the big league team, primarily against left handing pitching.
Butler joined the Cardinals this past off-season when he was claimed on waivers from the Texas Rangers. Butler was removed from the 40-man roster at the end of spring training; if the team were to remove him again, he'd have the option to elect free agency rather than accepting his minor league assignment. In his short time with the Cardinals, he appeared in 5 games, 3 of which were in a pinch hitting role.
