The Cardinals have recalled outfielder Randal Grichuk from Memphis this afternoon; Grichuk will be available for tonight’s game. In a corresponding move, Shane Robinson has been optioned to Memphis.
Grichuk, acquired with Peter Bourjos from the Angels for David Freese and Fernando Salas, was recalled earlier in the season, going 3 for 21 with a double and a triple. He’ll primarily play off the bench, although he appears to be a better starting option in center over Bourjos and Jon Jay.
Grichuk was leading Memphis with 10 home runs, while batting .315 and knocking in 32 runs. He’s been killing left handed pitching in Triple A, batting .451 and slugging .941. He’s also been charge with 0 errors in the outfield, where he’d play all 3 positions.
Robinson has struggled with the big league club this seasons; he’s slashing .152/.222/.182 in 33 at bats. He’s only had 1 extra base hit, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs.
