With no meltdown by The Cardinals this time, it was a pitchers duel between young Michael Wacha of St. Louis and John Lackey of Boston through three innings. Matt Holiday smacked a triple in the fourth and scored giving the birds a 1-0 lead. Then young Wacha gave David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz just what he wanted and he did what he does best, crushed one over the Green Monster in left field giving Boston a 2-1 lead. The Cardinals responded right back as they have all season long with a bases-loaded sac fly by Matt Carpenter that tied it at 2, but the play was not over as it was Boston’s turn to make a mistake with an errant throw by Sox reliever Craig Breslow allowing another run to cross the plate, Cards up 3-2. Carlos Beltran added an rbi-single and the game ended 4-2 Cardinals win. Trevor Rosenthal put down Boston’s last chance in the ninth striking out the side on just eleven pitches.
