Carbohydrate consumption to burn fat

Carbohydrates are not the enemy they are a source of energy for your workouts. People think that cutting carbohydrates is the solution to fat loss. Yes it can help you lose weight, but using carbs the right way can help you lose weight and body fat.

When should you eat your carbohydrates?

According to Muscle & Body “Eat carbohydrates first thing in the morning then taper off as the day goes on. Doing this lets you use them for energy and later in the day cutting them out helps you not to store them as fat."

To shed fat you want slow burning carbs in the morning, moderate at lunch, and fast burning at dinner and before your workout.

Slow burning carb sources are:

  • Oatmeal
  • Brown rice
  • Yams
  • Whole grain bread and pasta

Moderate burning carb sources are:

  • Pasta
  • White rice
  • Peas, corn, carrots
  • Many fruits such as orange, apple, peach, banana, cantaloupe, pineapple

Fast burning carb sources are:

  • Sugar
  • White bread
  • Potatoes boiled
  • Fruit jelly
  • Soft drinks

Include fiber carbohydrate sources such as beans, nuts, veggies and dried fruit at dinner time and add in daily workouts to really shed the fat.
