Carabins beat Dinos for CIS women's hockey championship Sunday

The University of Calgary Dinos came up one goal short Sunday in Toronto in their quest to defend their national championship in women's hockey.

According to the University of Calgary website, Kim Deschenes scored twice as the University of Montreal Carabins defeated the University of Calgary Dinos 3-2.

The Carabins got revenge on the Dinos, who beat the University of Montreal convincingly 5-1 in last year's championship game in Edmonton.

The Dinos were without star player and Olympic gold medallist, Hayley Wickenheiser, who suffered a lower body injury in the Dinos' thrilling overtime victory against the University of Queen's Golden Gaels in the semi-final.

Deschenes, who scored the game winning goal with 25 seconds left in the second period to break a 2-2 deadlock, was the tournament's most valuable player.

This was the first time the Carabins won a Canadian Interuiversity Sport title in any sport.

The Dinos will be hosting the 2015 Canadian Interuniversity Sport national women's hockey championship.
