The collision on August 8, 2013, near the junction of High Eggborough Lane on the A19 ended in the death of a horse, a distraught driver and minor injuries to the 14-year-old rider. At this time, the North Yorkshire Police continues to investigate the car versus horse collision in Eggborough in the Selby District.
The collision has been reconstructed this way – a 23-year-old local woman, driving a Yaris Toyota, was headed toward Selby when a 14-year-old rider from the area rode onto the side of the road. The car struck the horse, causing the young rider to be thrown to the pavement and causing traumatic injuries to the horse. The rider was fortunate to receive only minor injuries and scratches. However, the horse was euthanized at the scene by a veterinarian to avert further suffering of the animal.
Paramedics reached the scene of the accident quickly, treating both the driver who was shocked and upset and the injured rider who sustained slight injuries.
North Yorkshire Police encourage calls from witnesses to the collision – Please call police on 101, select Option 2, and request to speak to Matt Harvey. Witnesses may also email email@example.com. Refer to Reference Number 12130135003 when discussing this investigation.
