One of the many must-see places at the Car Craft Summer Nationals is the Chevrolet Performance tent.
Chevrolet is an official sponsor of the show and the Bowtie camp brought out some significant cars worth noting.
The 2014 Camaro was on display, showing off its new face-lift. The grill is definitely an upgrade, meshing better with the overall styling. Combined with the new rear taillight treatment, the Camaro added some sleekness to its design.
The COPO race car program graced us with its presence, too. Looking fast a hell with a exposed roll cage due to the convertible top being down (yes, it's topless), the COPO was also supercharged!
The highly anticipated Chevrolet SS 4-door sedan even made an appearance. First unveiled at Daytona National Speedway as an Indy 500 Pace Car, the blue SS still looked ready to turn a few more laps. Its white stripes and signal bar on the roof were still in place.
Looking similar in size and scope to the now-extinct RWD Pontiac G8, the SS is the 4-door performance sedan the public has been begging for nearly 2 decades.
Even better, we asked – and were permitted – more access to the Chevrolet SS. Doors were flung open and the hood unlatched. No, we weren’t allowed any seat time, but it was better than being locked out, in the usual car show fare.
Here’s our first impressions:
The interior is indeed an improvement, especially by Chevrolet standards.
Sound-wise, it’s fairly mellow, being a stock Chevrolet product (yes, we got ‘em to fire it up).
There seemed to be room to spare in the engine bay for exhaust mods and the like.
In all, we’re amped by all the possibilities the new SS will soon offer. Though official production numbers haven’t been announced, we hope the limited edition status won’t deter the aftermarket.
Chevrolet just released pricing on the SS model, which starts at $44,470.
