A horseback riding child was injured in an accident after his horse was struck by a car. The boy, aged 12, was riding along the edge of the road when a car struck the horse he was riding, causing him to fall off.
Mackay police were called to the accident that occurred on October 17 at 8:30 a.m. after a rider was struck by a vehicle.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said the boy sustained a broken leg and was taken to Mackay Base Hospital.
According to a police spokesperson, they were summoned to Boundary Road [near Bernborough Avenue], Ooralea, after the collision. Also called to the scene of the accident were Queensland Fire & Rescue and Ambulance.
The details released thus far by police have been sketchy.
The name of the injured boy is being withheld at this time. There are reports that the horse may have fallen on the rider after the collision with the vehicle. There is no word about the condition of the horse.
