Captain Squeegee, an eclectic ska septet hailing from Tempe, is set to perform tonight in downtown Phoenix at the Hard Rock Cafe. The name of the band alone is enough to draw some attention. However, this humorus seven man group come equipped with horns and trumpets, playing with a sound similar to the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, while keeping in tune with the ska rock beats of No Doubt. Lead Vocalist and Trumpteer Danny Torgerson is accompanied by his bandmates Chris (saxophone), Austen (guitar/ keyboard), Ryan (trombone/ backup vocals), Tyler (bass), Korey (guitar), and Mat (drums).
Formed in 2003, and receiving acclaim and prestige for their 2008 release of their first full length album "Nothing vs Everything", this band has toured among local, Southwest, and national venues at various shows and festivals. Their unique blend of instruments and experimentation was described by Phoenix New Times as "Fantasia Music, with lead singer Danny Torgersen making like Mickey in a swirling maelstrom of flying horns, dancing guitars, broken melodies, and mad-prophet vocalizing".
If you're thinking of friday night plans, come tonight to Hard Rock for some good food and fun music. Show starts at 8pm with opener Holy Rolling Empire. Tickets can be bought in advance for $8, or $10 at the door.
