Captain Keith Colburn's children start protest over wrongful dismissal

Wizard Captain, Keith Colburn, from the “Deadliest Catch” has family members making the news. Two of Keith’s children, started a protest at the Eastside Catholic School when they discovered that the school asked a staff member to walk away from the job. According to My Northwest, Mr. Zmuda is the swim coach and vice principle at the school. He also broke one of his contract rules when he married another gay man over the summer.

Sienna Colburn, 15, likes Mr. Zmuda and has him for her swim coach. She, along with fellow classmates, doesn't care if he is gay. They based their decision on how he portrays himself as a person.

Sienna Colburn, Captain Keith’s daughter, said, "I've come to know him really well through the swim program, obviously. He's just such a great man and a mentor and a role model to me. I just thought what was happening to him was so unfair, and just morally wrong, that I thought I should stand up against it."

Sienna and her brother, Caelan Colburn, along with over 400 students protested against the schools decision. Sienna wants the rules of the 2000-year-old Bible changed, allowing Mr. Zmuda to remain at the school. Nevertheless, Sienna knows that it will take a long time before that happens. Now, because of the school's stand on this matter, she is unsure as to whether she’ll come back to this school for next year’s term.

Eastside Catholic School remains adamant in their decision. Being a Catholic school, they adhere to the rules or laws of the Bible.

The school defends its position. Mike Patterson, a spokesperson for the Eastside Catholic told the Seattle PI “He (Mr. Zmuda) clearly understood, as a condition of his employment, that he would abide by church teachings and one of those teachings is they do not approve of this marriage.

“He understood that under the Magisterium and teachings of the church, unless he adheres to that teaching he does not have a choice. Everybody who works there understands that as well."

The students are taking this to a higher authority by sending tweets and using other social media to contact Pope Francis. They are hoping that he will side with them in this matter.

Perhaps Mr. Zmuda thought that because the state recently legalized same sex marriages, that the clause in his contract would no longer be binding.
