Captain Falcon confirmed as a fighter in the next ‘Super Smash Bros’ titles

The website has confirmed the return of another veteran fighter in the next “Super Smash Bros.” titles. That character is Captain Falcon, and his return was announced on July 14, 2014. Captain Falcon originally appeared in the “F-Zero” racing series of games, and later appeared in the original “Super Smash Bros” on the Nintendo 64. Since he was one of the original twelve characters in that game, it was unlikely that he would be cut from the new games, but it is nice to get confirmation of his return. The announcement trailer can be viewed at this link.

Prior to his appearance in the “Super Smash Bros.” franchise, Captain Falcon had only appeared in the “F-Zero” racing games. He piloted the Blue Falcon, a vehicle that also appears in “Super Smash Bros Brawl” in his Final Smash. When he appeared in the original “Super Smash Bros,” he was one of the lesser known Nintendo characters (Ness was likely the only character who was more unknown than him). Even stranger was how Nintendo managed to take a racing character and make him into a fighting character. It worked however, and he has since grown to be quite popular.

Captain Falcon has played very similarly since his original appearance, and that is unlikely to change. In the previous games, he was a very fast fighter that specialized in physical and fire based attacks. He was so fast, in fact, that some players had difficulty controlling him. Thanks to his speed, players that learned how to use him well could rush in, get in a few good hits, and run away before the enemy could counterattack. Unfortunately, Captain Falcon’s short range and relatively slow attack animations did prevent him from being as powerful as he could be.

With the return of Captain Falcon, it seems more and more likely that the original twelve characters will all be returning in the next “Super Smash Bros.” titles. The only two original characters to not be announced at this point are Ness and Jigglypuff.
