It looks like Captain America is getting a new leading lady. Deadline reported on Friday, Feb. 1 that "Revenge" star Emily VanCamp has officially joined the Marvel project Captain America: The Winter Soldier in a leading role. The actress is making the jump into major motion pictures after making a name for herself in television. The superhero sequel is expected to release in theaters on April 4, 2014.
VanCamp's character role has not been confirmed but it is likely to be that of Sharon Carter. The character is the cousin of Peggy Carter who appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger. Hayley Atwell portrayed the role of Peggy Carter and has already confirmed she will not be appearing in the sequel.
The Canadian actress rose to fame by playing Amy Abbott on the WB show "Everwood" and Rebecca Harper on the ABC drama "Brothers & Sisters." She currently plays the vengeful beauty Emily Thorne on "Revenge."VanCamp completed several television movies and had a role in The Ring Two.
Joe Russo and Anthony Russo will direct the superhero action thriller which includes a cast of Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Scarlett Johannson and Anthony Mackie. Check out the official website for more information.
