Captain America: The Winter Soldier casts female lead

Breaking news from Deadline reports that Revenge’s Emily VanCamp will play the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Deadline is reporting that the television actress and Marvel Studios are currently in negotiations to secure her in the role of what is believed to be Sharon Carter, who in the comic books is the niece of Peggy Carter, a character previously played by Hayley Atwell in Captain America: The First Avenger. After months of speculations and rumors VanCamp seems to have beaten a long list of candidates up for the part at one time or another: Felicity Jones, Allison Brie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anna Kendrick, Emelia Clarke, Jessica Findlay Brown, Teresa Palmer and Imogen Poots were all said to be up for the role. True to form, Marvel Studios has selected a candidate previously not on the purported casting radar.
