‘Captain America’ sets record for an April opening

The Captain failed to cross the $100-million mark, but Captain America: The Winter Soldier still opened to a $96.2 million weekend in the US and set a a record for an April opening.

The film's global gross now totals $303 million. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a bona fide success for Disney and continues the winning streak for Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It should be noted that the film did not have to compete against any other major blockbuster, perhaps owning to the spring release timeline and other studios' preference to avoid a clash against the good ol' Captain.

What's next for Captain America?

According to Deadline Hollywood, the Captain will be dueling it out with Superman and Batman. Disney has officially set the release date of Captain America 3 for May 6, 2016. That date happens to be the very same release date intended for Warner Bros' Superman-Batman movie. If no studio changes their date, then the iconic characters will be battling for box office supremacy. Disney has decided upon a really interesting release date for Captain America. What will Superman and Batman do now?
