When the cast of the new “Fantastic Four” movie was revealed last month, loyal fans were outraged over the casting of the beloved Marvel characters. The most noticeable was the casting of Michael B. Jordan to play the role of Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch in Fox's upcoming reboot. Due to the announcement, it has drawn less than enthusiastic opinions and concerns from many corners of the fan community.
Hardcore “Fantastic Four” fans were not pleased with Jordan’s casting because the “Human Torch” character is Caucasian in the comics. According to Superhero Hype report on Tuesday April 1, there is one person who approves and thinks Jordan is right for the part. It’s Captain America himself, actor Chris Evans.
Evans told NY Daily News that he thinks the role is in great hands and Jordan will do a “Fantastic” job… Yeah that was a pun.
"It's so funny, you almost feel precious over the role that you don't want someone else to do it," said Evans. "But when you hear someone phenomenal is doing it, it's very exciting like you almost can't wait…. I couldn't even give that guy any advice if I wanted, that guy is so good. It's exciting to see what he's going to do, because I know he's going to reinvent it in a way that I could never have imagined…It's almost like we're sharing, the character is ours. I feel like I'm connected with him in a way, It's a nice feeling. "
Chris Evans played the role of Johnny Storm in previous films, Fantastic Four (2005) and the 2007 sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
It’s nice to know that Mr. Evans approves, or maybe he’s secretly hope the character wouldn’t be ruined. Whatever it is… Michael B. Jordan, you have the stamp of approval from Captain America.
“The Fantastic Four” reboot is slated to be release in theaters June 19, 2015.
