“Captain America” grabs top spot over four new movies

There were four new movies to premiere this week, but only one of them were able to challenge the top two spots at the box office.

For the third straight week, Captain America Winter Soldier grabs the top spot at the box office with an estimated $26.6 million over the weekend. Considered one of the best Marvel films so far, the movie has brought in an estimated $201.5 million. The sequel has surpassed the first Captain America movie and is currently ranked 12th for Marvel comic adaptations. It should move up in the charts for the next few weeks.

Rio 2 once again falls short of the top spot bringing in an estimated $22.5 million. The movie has been doing fairly well compared to how well the first movie had did. The lack of competition could be part of the reason why.

For the four new movies, the biggest movie as the theaters was Heaven is for Real which took in an estimated $21.5 million. The movie is based on the NY Times best-selling book by Todd Burpo which had done very well for book sales.

Sure to be a flop, Transcendence took in an estimated $11.1 million which is far short of expectations. The movie had a high budget with an all-star cast, but bad reviews have plagued this movie. The other two movies to premiere are A Haunted House 2 with an estimated $9.1 million and Bears with an estimated $4.7 million.

There isn’t a lot going on at the box office until next week, so there will most likely be a very small shuffle with next week’s box office.
