“Captain America” continues to dominate the box office

There were three new movies to come out this week, but none of them came close to taking down Captain America Winter Solider, which took in an estimated $41.3 million over the weekend. The movie has yet to hit its $170 million budget, but is most likely to do so by the end of next week. The movie should have a hefty box office before it gets any competition at the theaters.

Rio 2 came close to topping Captain America bringing in an estimated $39 million. Rio 2 is the sequel to the surprise success from the first movie. This movie premiered just under what Rio premiered at ($39.2 million) which doesn’t bode well for it being more successful. The only thing that’s going to help it is the lack of competition for family films.

The other two movies to come out this weekend are Oculus and Draft Day with an estimated $12 million and $9 million respectively. Draft Day has been good reviews by football fans getting a 62% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Divergent remains in the top 5 just barely beating Noah with an estimated $7.5 million. Recently, Summit has announced it’s splitting the final book into two movies following suit with every other successful book series adaptation.
