Captain America and other Marvel heroes headed to 'Disney Infinity 2.0'

Marvel Entertainment and Disney Interactive confirmed Tuesday that not only is a new version of Disney Infinity coming but so are Marvel super hero characters like Captain America and the rest of the Avengers.

A short teaser trailer was released showing Captain America's shield flying and bouncing through the existing world of Disney Infinity before concluding with a "Bring on the Super Heroes" tagline and a logo for Disney Infinity 2.0 Edition.

It's currently unknown if the 2.0 Edition is an all new version of the game or simply an expansion to the existing release. It seems likely though that Disney Interactive would want its world building game to be available on the PS4 and Xbox One by this fall though as both next-gen consoles steadily increase their audience. This would be in addition to the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions.

This leaves Star Wars, the other major franchise that Disney purchased as the series of characters that fans would most want to see as part of Disney Infinity. The first new Star Wars film is due out in December 2015 so it is probable that Disney will work on a tie-in for that franchise next year.

A release date for Disney Infinity 2.0 Edition and the Marvel characters has not yet been announced but August will mark the game's one year anniversary.
