Raleigh, don’t miss out on the killah bee coming your way Sunday night. The “official honorary” Wu-Tang member Cappadonna is coming to set the city on “fyre.” Cappadonna burned down the stage Friday night at the Tremont Music Hall last night in Charlotte.
Donna Cappa performed his classic hits in promotion of his latest album Eyrth, Wynd, and Fyre, so titled he said because they are the “elements for foundation." "Wisdom, fyre is the main source of energy.” He took the stage just after midnight and performed his classic hits while the crowd rhymed in unison. The local acts Kil Ripkin, Ike Turnah, and MC Cataclysm got the crowd hype causing an old school b-boy cipher to break out. Several times the Wu member let guest performers take the stage including Mizfit who represented for the lady MCs. Adding to the ambiance was local visual artist John Hairston, who spent the night painting a large canvas that featured the Wu-Tang symbol.
After his performance, the king held court welcoming well-wishers and schooling the young MC’s on what those two letters mean and the responsibility they carry. Cappadonna acknowledges the evolution of Hip-Hop and when asked if there will ever be a renaissance to the golden era he said it needed to “happen fast” if it was going to happen. He’s not worried though. With a new solo album out and a planned 20th anniversary album and tour planned for the entire Wu-Tang Clan, that renaissance is happening now. No Mysteries involved.
Catch Cappadonna at The Pour House Music Hall in Raleigh, N.C. March 17, 2013. Eyrth, Wind, & Fyre/Love, Anger, & Emotion is now available for purchase online.
