The car chase video taken before the tragic shooting on Capitol Hill on Thursday is being watched over and over again online today as people try to wrap their heads around how this happened. A young mother with a baby is taken down in a barrage of bullets by the Capitol Police. According to Christian Science Monitor on Oct 4, the unarmed woman’s death has people questioning whether or not this could have been handled differently by police.
The Connecticut woman was far away from home with her 1-year-old baby and no one in her family can figure out what drew her to the nation’s capital. Miriam Carey, from Stamford, Connecticut had a history of mental illness. It is thought she also could have been suffering from postpartum depression.
Carey’s boyfriend said she became delusional when the baby was 4-months old and medication for depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia was found in her home. Fox News live is reporting on Friday evening that a source close to Carey said she believed President Obama was communicating with her.
Carey led Capitol Police on a high-speed chase hitting anything that got in her way, including two police officers. She was told on numerous occasions throughout this rampage to “get out of the car.” But she ignored police commands and kept going.
Her one-year-old baby was not harmed, but all of the cars windows, except for the windshield were shot out, so that child is lucky to be alive today. Did police know they were shooting at a car with a small child? This will be one of the many questions that will get answers during the investigation.
