Capital Region weather forecast: Wintry mix changes to rain today, storm lingers (Video)

A slow moving and complex storm system will linger across the Capital Region today and tomorrow. Two areas of low pressure, one located over Ohio, and the other over the mid Atlantic states, will merge into one area of low pressure through the day today and into tonight. This merger looks to take place in the vicinity of the Lower Hudson Valley in New York late this afternoon and early this evening. The congealed low pressure area is then forecast to weaken, and actually drift westward over central New York State by Thursday morning while slowly weakening through this time. The system is forecast to lift north and east of the region by Thursday night, as a Canadian cold front approaches from the west.

The cold front looks to pass through the Capital Region by Friday morning, allowing high pressure to nose into the region, from the center of the nation, for the coming weekend. Breezy conditions are expected on Saturday, with a slight decrease to the winds on Sunday. The next chance of precipitation looks to come during the midweek period next week as a faster moving system passes well south of the region bringing a slight chance for some light snow.
