The area of low pressure that brought a wintry mix of rain and snow to the region yesterday was located over the northeastern tip of Lake Ontario this morning, and looks to remain essentially stationary through the day today. Meanwhile, another weak surface low pressure area was feebly attempting to develop over the southern New England coast. Through the day today, the coastal system will push northeast, away from the region, providing impetus for the decaying low over Lake Ontario (mentioned above) to transition to more of a pesky upper level feature that will keep our weather unsettled through the weekend.
Although conditions should slowly start to improve to close out the work week, as weak high pressure builds into the region from the center of the nation, lots of clouds look to filter the sunshine. In addition, stray sprinkles, flurries, and the occasional rain and/or snow shower cannot be ruled out through the coming weekend.
The weather pattern looks to shift a bit as we move into the new work week. A storm system takes shape over the central and southern Plains to start the new work week as a fast moving clipper system dives southeastward from Canada. These two systems sweep across the eastern third of the nation by midweek next week. At this point in time, the resultant low pressure area that forms looks to take a decidedly more southward track, and may be far enough south that our region is spared any significant precipitation at all.
Temperatures through the entire period look to average near to slightly above normal, while as precipitation amounts average near normal.

Today: Overcast with patchy morning fog. Areas of drizzle and light rain showers possible through the day. High 40-45. Light and variable winds. Chance of rain is 40 percent.
Tonight: Variably cloudy. A slight chance of an evening rain shower. Low near 30. Light northwest winds. Chance of evening rain is 20 percent.
Friday: A slight chance of a rain and/or snow shower in the morning. Otherwise, gradual clearing during the afternoon. High in the lower 40’s. Northwest winds 5-15 MPH. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy. Low 25-30. Light northwest winds.
Saturday: More clouds than sunshine and breezy. High in the lower 40’s. Northwest winds 10-20 MPH.
Sunday: More clouds than sunshine with a 30 percent chance of rain showers. High near 40 and low near 25.
Monday: Mostly cloudy and breezy. High near 40 and low near 30.
Tuesday: Mostly cloudy. High near 45 and low near 30.
