Low pressure over the upper Great Lakes will move into southeastern Canada through the day today. The forecast track of the low will mean that both the warm and cold fronts associated with it will sweep through our region during the day today. Precipitation looks to break out around, or slightly before, the noon hour across the area, and initially some light snow may mix with liquid rain across the Capital Region. Areas further north and west, as well as sheltered valley and rural locations, where colder air hangs in a bit longer, may see a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and/or freezing rain at the onset of precipitation. However, by later this afternoon, precipitation should generally be in the liquid form (rain) region wide.
A weak, secondary trough of low pressure works southward toward the region on Tuesday, in the wake of the departing storm. It will be a blustery day on Wednesday, as the Capital Region is in the transition zone between the storm, and Canadian high pressure building southward from Hudson’s Bay in Canada. The high pressure area will slowly win the battle through Thursday, bringing some chilly air to the region along with a persistently strong and gusty wind. Temperatures look to remain near to slightly below normal.
High pressure sinks south of the region by the end of the work week and into the weekend. This should allow temperatures to trend upward, to more seasonable levels if not a bit above normal. Low pressure looks to develop over the Gulf Coast on Friday, and track through the Tennessee valley on Saturday, ending up over the open waters of the Atlantic, well east and south of Cape Cod by Sunday morning. This track may be close enough to the region to allow for some light precipitation on Sunday.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, breezy, and chilly. High near 30. West winds 10-20 MPH.
Friday: Mostly sunny. High near 40 and low near 25.
Saturday: Partly sunny. High near 40 and low near 30.
Sunday: Overcast with a 30 percent chance of rain and/or snow showers. High near 40 and low near 30.
