Capital Region weather forecast: High pressure builds in to close out work week (Video)

A pesky trough of low pressure will retreat to the north and northeast, away from the Capital Region during the day today. This will allow Canadian high pressure to build into the region through the day. A couple light snow flurries and showers will dot the landscape early this morning, but should diminish by mid-morning with little if any accumulation. Winds will remain brisk and gusty at times today, adding to the chill.

High pressure will build into the region overnight, clearing the skies and dropping the temperatures. With the high pressure forecast to remain in dominant control of the weather on Friday, a decent amount of sunshine, moderating temperatures, and less wind look to be in the offing.

Clouds will begin to filter back into the region Friday night as a series of low pressure areas move east and north toward the region. We continue to closely monitor the potential for some precipitation over the weekend. A mix of rain and snow, snow more primarily in the overnight and early morning hours, and rain more likely during the daytime hours.

A coastal storm looks to evolve later in the day on Saturday and looks to hug the southern New England coast, while as previous storms have been tracking well off the coast. This forecast track may bring some more moisture laden snowfall to the region, resulting in a heavier, wetter variety of snow. Stay tuned for further details.
