High pressure will retreat to the north and east of the northeastern United States through the day today. The day should start out with a fair amount of sunshine across the region, however, clouds will be on the increase late in the day.
Several areas of low pressure were located over the central plains, and the Gulf Coast states early Friday morning. These systems are forecast to track east of northeast through the day today and into tonight. Clouds from these systems will overspread the region by later this afternoon and early this evening.
The weekend looks unsettled, to say the least. The low pressure areas mentioned above look to consolidate as they head toward to the mid Atlantic coastal plain by Saturday afternoon. The resultant coastal low pressure area looks to track along the southern New England coast on Saturday evening, to be just east of Cape Cod by early Sunday morning. Precipitation looks to start Saturday morning as a bit of light snow, then with perhaps a transition to a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and/or rain by afternoon as temperatures slowly approach and exceed the freezing mark.
Precipitation looks to transition back into a wet snow for Saturday night, as colder air is circulated back into the region on the western side of the developing coastal system. A few inches of slushy, wet snow may accumulate. Unsettled conditions persist through Sunday, as upper level energy passes north of the region, lending an impetus for additional rain and/or snow shower activity.
High pressure builds in to start the new work week, but not much of a break in the action looks to be in the offing. Another relatively strong system looks to take aim at the region as we approach the middle part of next week, complete with more chances for a rain and snow.

Today: Mostly sunny to start with increasing high clouds late in the day. High in the upper 30’s. Light and variable winds.
Tonight: Increasing, thickening, and lowering clouds with a slight chance of light snow toward daybreak. Low near 25. Light southeast winds. Chance of snow is 20 percent. Little if any accumulation expected.
Saturday: Light snow developing during the morning, mixing with and eventually changing over to rain. High near 40. Southeast winds 5-10 MPH. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. Snow accumulations of an inch or less.
Saturday Night: Periods of rain mixing with and then changing over the snow. Low near 30. Light and variable winds. Chance of precipitation 80 percent. 2 to 4 inches of wet snow accumulation possible.
Sunday: Overcast with light rain and/or snow showers possible. High near 40. Northwesterly winds 5-10 MPH. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
Monday: Mostly sunny. High near 40 and low near 25.
Tuesday: Increasing clouds with a 50 percent chance of rain and/or snow. High near 40 and low near 30.
Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of rain and/or snow showers. High near 40 and low near 25.
