Nearly a year after its original release as a Nintendo 3DS exclusive title, it has been announced by Capcom that Resident Evil: Revelations will be coming to the PS3, Xbox 360 , Wii U, and PC completely re-mastered for a big screen experience. There will be newly added content, such as a new difficulty mode, and is sure to give new and old fans of the Resident Evil series the ride of their life.
When originally released February 7th, 2012, Revelations had many great reviews, but was sadly overlooked by most players because it was only available on the Nintendo 3DS. A good deal of the targeted mature audience does not enjoy the handheld experience, and instead they looked forward to the release of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC in the following month of March, and Resident Evil 6 on the same systems in October. Capcom now hopes to reach the players they missed with this hidden gem of the survival horror series.
The events of Resident Evil: Revelations take place after Resident Evil 4 and before Resident Evil 5, during the infancy of the B.S.A.A. (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance), whose founders include Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, the original protagonists of the series. The game returns to its roots, incorporating tense moments and a slower pace more reminiscent of earlier titles, really making it feel like a true survival horror. While it does have some of the action that the newer games in the series revolve around, it is not overpowering, and instead weaves with the horror to create a truly rich game play experience.
While there are many different locations for events throughout the game, the main portion of it takes place on a ship called the Queen Zenobia. This setting is eerie as it keeps the player wondering what is lurking around the corner (and still using the third person over-the-shoulder viewpoint). There is no traditional health bar as with previous titles, but the screen will look bloodier as the player takes damage, the colors of the environment wash out, and the game character will look in pain, holding themselves while looking ready to keel over.
Among other new features Revelations introduced to the series such as new creatures, the Genesis bio-scanner, and life bars on enemies, this is the first Resident Evil game in which the characters can swim. But this doesn’t mean the water is safe. More new B.O.W.s (Bio Organic Weapon) lurk beneath the surface.
This is a must-have game for players of the Resident Evil series, or anyone looking for a good horror or shooter game. It will be interesting to see what else Capcom has in store for Revelations before it re-releases in May this year.
