For any fan of the Mega Man series, the game’s iconic music holds a certain special place in their nostalgic heart. Capcom is acutely aware of that fact, and to help every Mega Man fanboy/girl they will be releasing not just 1 but 2 Mega Man tribute albums this fall.
OverClocked ReMix, a “video game music community”, will produce the first of the 2 albums, focusing on remixes of the series’ most memorable tunes. ”We’re honored to again be collaborating with Capcom on another iconic franchise, paying tribute to over 25 years of Mega Man,” wrote OverClocked Remix founder/president David Lloyd on Capcom’s blog, “…The OverClocked ReMix community is always excited to explore new interpretations and expressions of such amazing compositions, and we believe that For Everlasting Peace – our first commercial album – will offer fans something new while staying true to our goals of honoring great video game music and composers!”
The second album, produced by Sumthing Else Music Works, will provide music inspired by as well as covers by popular acts such as The Protomen, Arm Cannon, Bit Brigade, Mega Ran, X Hunters, and The Megas. Both albums will be released digitally over “distribution sites (including iTunes).”
In the meantime, Capcom asks any artistically talented Mega Man fans to submit their art by September 23rd for a chance to be featured as the cover art on either album. And if you’re looking for some good old fashioned Mega Man gaming, might we suggest to check out Keiji Inafune’s Mighty No 9 on Kickstarter.
