Canucks sign Vandermeer Monday

According to the Canadian Press, the Vancouver Canucks have signed defenceman Jim Vandermeer from the San Jose Sharks to a one year deal worth $600,000.

Vandermeer, a native of Caroline, Alberta, an hour north of Calgary, had one goal and three assists for the Sharks last season in 25 games. The veteran blueliner is also a former Calgary Flame, having played there from 2007-2009.

The Canucks also announced on Tuesday that forward David Booth will be out four to six weeks with a strained groin. Booth had 16 goals and 14 assists last season in 62 games with the Canucks and Florida Panthers.

With the loss of Booth and Ryan Kesler with a shoulder injury, forward Andrew Ebbett, a Calgary native is hoping for some more ice time, according to the Canadian Press. Ebbett had five goals and one assist in 18 games for the Canucks last season.

Vancouver begins their season Saturday night against the Anaheim Ducks.
