According to CBC Sports on Sunday, many players of the Canadian Olympic gold medal winning women's hockey team from the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi were honoured by the Vancouver Canucks prior to the 2014 Heritage Classic at B.C. Place Stadium.

Among the players were assistant captain Hayley Wickenheiser of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and goaltender Shannon Szabados of Edmonton, who were also recognized in a ceremony prior to the Edmonton Oilers' 3-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night. Wickenheiser is regarded as the greatest women's hockey player of all-time and Szabados is the best women's hockey goaltender ever.

It was interesting to hear Wickenheiser, who also carried the flag for Canada in the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, be so excited of being recognized by over 55,000 fans in attendance at B.C. Place. Wickenheiser was wearing a microphone for CBC Sports during the Heritage Classic ceremony.

CBC viewers also had the chance to witness a conversation between Wickenheiser and Szabados.

Szabados asked Wickenheiser if she thought it would be ok for her to take a picture, to which Wickenheiser replied "go for it".

The Ottawa Senators defeated the Vancouver Canucks Sunday 4-2 on a goal and assist by Clarke MacArthur.
