The Baltimore Ravens were able to sign a free agent after the Opening of free agency looked dim for much of the day.
The Ravens have announced that they have signed free agent defensive tackle Chris Canty to bolster their defensive line. He will make $8 million dollars over the next three years.
He will get $2.8 million dollars guaranteed in this deal.
The Ravens were not only team interested in Canty. He garnered interest from the Tennessee Titans, Green Bay Packers, and the Kansas City Chiefs, before signing with the Ravens.
Yet, the Packers medical staff would not sign off on Canty after his physical, according to NFL.com's Albert Breer.
Canty has spent the past four seasons with the New York Giants. Yet, he only played in nine games last season with 26 tackles and three sacks.
He adds depth behind Haloti Ngata. Last season, the Super Bowl champions were able to squeak by with Ma'ake Kemoeatu and Terrence Cody behind Ngata.
This is the first time that Canty will be playing in the AFC. Prior to signing with the Giants, he played for the Dallas Cowboys.
