The Canton Symphony Chorus is currently holding auditions for their 2014-2015 season. The auditions are being held at the Birk Center for the Arts on the Walsh University campus on Sunday, August 17 and 24, 2014 from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. The chorus is under the direction of Dr. Britt Cooper who is the Director of Fine and Performing Arts and Director of Choral Activities at Walsh University.

The Canton Symphony Chorus was founded in 1984 and is a volunteer adult ensemble that rehearses weekly from September through April at the Birk Center for the Arts. Over the course of the season, the chorus performs major choral works with the Canton Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Gerhardt Zimmermann. This season repertoire will include Howard Hanson’s Song of Democracy on October 5th during the opening concert of the Canton Symphony Orchestra’s Masterworks series, holiday favorites during the Holiday Pops concert in December, a chorus-only concert in February, and Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 as part of the CSO’s Beethoven festival.

New members into the chorus are required to audition, and singers from all backgrounds and levels of experience are encouraged to audition. Singers may, but are not required, to bring a prepared classical piece to their audition. Anyone auditioning should expect to be vocalized for range and should be prepared to sing through several pitch memory and sight-singing drills. To schedule an audition time, call the Canton Symphony Orchestra Office at 330-452-2094. Additional information is available online at www.cantonsymphony.org/people/chorus-auditions.
