For the first two seasons of play, the Canton Charge made the playoffs. Saturday’s game against the Iowa Energy proved to be the tipping point as the 108-101 win clinched yet another spot to the NBA Development League playoffs. The win puts Canton’s season record at 28-19 and puts them as the sixth seed of eight teams. The loss drops Iowa to 28-18 and snaps a six game winning streak.

Glen Rice Jr. (on assignment from the Washington Wizards) came out hot for Iowa in the first period scoring 12 points with two steals as he led his team to a 30-28 lead at the buzzer. The Charge answered back in the second hitting 15-of-22 for 68% and forcing five turnovers for seven points. By outscoring the Energy 34-25 in the second period, Canton went to the locker room with a 62-55 advantage.

The third quarter saw Canton padding the lead by as many as eleven points due in part to Shane Edwards hitting ten points with 5-of-10 shooting, but the game was far from over. The Energy bounced back from a ten point deficit with 11:07 left to go on a 16-5 run which put them on top 94-93.

With the season on the line, the Charge rallied with a 10-0 run to up the score to 103-94 while hitting 11-of-17 from the free throw line. This 28th win is the second highest in the teams history as they pass the 27-23 mark of the inaugural season.

Edwards finished with a game-high 23 points, six rebounds and two blocks in 24 minutes. Kyrylo Fesenko had his third-straight game with a double-double of 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting and 10 rebounds in 30 minutes. Will Cherry scored 12 points with five rebounds and seven assists in 34 minutes, while Antoine Agudio poured in 15 points with five assists in 37 minutes.

Rice finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in 30 minutes. Curtis Stinson netted a team-high 18 points to go with six boards and six assists in 40 minutes. Othyus Jeffers added 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists in 41 minutes.
