Canton Charge acquires guard Will Cherry

The Canton Charge has acquired guard Will Cherry (6’1”, 176, Montana) from the NBA Development League available player pool. As a result of this move, the Canton Charge has waived guard Re’mon Nelson.

Cherry spent his four year collegiate career at the University of Montana (2009-13) where he played in 116 games for the Grizzlies with 104 starts. He averaged 12.8 points on .430 shooting with 3.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.3 steals in 30.7 minutes per game.

Cherry was honored by being chosen First Team All-Big Sky Conference three times, won the Big Sky Defensive Player of the year for the 2011-2012 season and is seventh on the schools all time scoring stats with 1,484 points. Most recently Will played in the NBA Summer League with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Nelson was originally signed via open tryouts entering training camp and played in 20 games for Canton this season, averaging 2.2 points on .298 shooting with 0.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 9.9 minutes per game. The Charge roster now stands at 11.

The Charge returns to the Canton Memorial Civic Center for their next game tonight, Tuesday, February 18, 2014 versus the defending champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
