Canon's new 100mm Macro lens with Canon's new Hybrid IS
Canon has chosen it's first lens to receive it's new Hybrid Image Stabilization, and it's the new EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro IS USM. The new lens has an IS system capable of providing up to 4 stops of image stabilization, but that new IS system covers both angular shake which happens from the hand holding the lens wobbles the lens, and the shift of you moving parallel to the subject, which is more noticeable when you are shooting macro-type shots where you are close to your subject.
Because this is a part of Canon's L (Luxury) series, it gets water and dust resistant seals all around. Pair this up with such things as ultra low dispersion (UD) lenses, and Super Spectra coatings to help reduce ghosting and flare in your images.
Find this lens in time for your favorite photographer's Christmas present; retail should be somewhere around $1,000.
